Slavery Differences
From the most recent reading in Franklin, you learned that slaves were brought to the New World and either went to the Caribbean or what is currently the East Coast of the United States and Canada. These colonies were either in hands of the British, Dutch, French or Spanish. How did the colonial settlement create differences in the way Africans were treated in the New World? Create a table that identifies these differences and makes this information easy for you to use.

The colonial settlement created differences in the way Africans were treated based on where they were from. For example, slaves in the middle colonies were run by Dutch masters. And since the Dutch was Quakers that treated the slaves with a lot of respect. So wherever there was different religions people were treated different. Mostly the north slave owners treated their slaves better because they did not need slaves like the south did. And the south slave owners treated their slaves more harsh because they needed them and probably could not did the work they were doing.
ReplyDeleteDutch- respected blacks for their hard work, because the white workers weren't doing the right job. They gave them their personal rights because they weren't viewed as some kind of creatures, they were viewed as human beings.
ReplyDeleteThe middle colonies didn't use many slaves because they prefered to do it themselves. The Dutch Swedes, and Germans had a good moral and didn't want to use blacks as slaves.
British- they were against slavery and they didn't want anything to do with it. However, diffrent settles moved into their area and did their own thing, one of which was slave blacks. That would be the Spanish people
When slaves were brought to the new world, they were either taken to the caribbean or the east coast of what is now known today as the United Sttates and/or Canada. During these times, slaves were in control of by the British, the Danish, the Spanish, or the French. Even though there were all involced in slavery in some type of way, they still treated their slaves differently from one another. The British appeared as if they didn't want anything to do with slavery and and viewed slavery as immoral and inhumane. The Dutch however, were a strong supporter of slavery and felt as though that slavery was a way to get more work done. They embraced the slaves for their hard work and treated them as simply human beings that were hired by the white people.
ReplyDeleteIn colonial period, the blacks were in treated differently in differeny countries. Due to the hard works and and due to their performance in different activities, blacks were respected in Dutch. However, the way that the British treated on the slaves were very different than that from Dutch. All the slaves British didn't think as the way that Dutch did. Huamn rights were provided in Dutch whereas not in British. The works done by blacks in Dutch were considered more comprehensive than that of the whites people.
