I think that in today's society a young person has many societal pressures. Such pressures are having to fit in with the look of certain black celebrities. For example, like get permed hair, tracks and weave. The also have to dress a certain way to fit it with people. I think that it should not matter about what society accepts and does not accept. You should just be the person you want to be and are happy with. However that can be very hard because the society expect out lot of young people. Such as succeeding from school, getting a job, and living a stable life. But its easier to say it then to do it because it may be hard for others.
The idea that actullay the video provides me and the truth what is going on now in today's world, I think have the same information for the people. In the video the young girls actullay were sharing their thoughts about their physical appereance, how their skin color is, how their hair looks like and other things. As we watch that the girls actullay were black in the video shaing their thoughts also help us know about that races that is been happening in today's world. I beleive that such things happens in today's world which certainly will create the societal pressures in young person's feeling. However as being a young person what i would say is that every one have equal right in the world, so races should not be happen in today's world.
Personally, I don't believe that all the pressure that young girls are under helps theme define who they really are, instead it forces them to look and act a certain way that society implies that’s "acceptable". The expectation of all young people is absolutely ridicules because no one could live up to them. So why make someone feel bad because they are not perfect. First of all, there is no such thing as perfect, it doesn't exist. So society needs to eliminate them from their minds. And all the girls should stop feeding into that non-sense! A young educated woman should not need a boy or society to judge her on her looks or how smart she is. Young girls need to listen to themselves rather than their FALSE critics.
After watching he video, A girl Like Me, it sort of re opened m eyes of how one race can be so divided. It almost to the point where the lighter skin african ameican are against the darker skin and its a shame. Some people view darker skin blacks as the unattractive or mean. While viewing lighter skin blacks as less intimidating, or nicer, or even more attractive because of their lightness; when in reality, we are all black and are all humans. Just because i'm darker doesn't make my personality different; that may just be the person I am; it has nothing to do with the color of my skin. My younger brother is a little bit lighter than me and I have heard people tell my brother that he has good hair, wavy. While my hair is kinky, nasty or dirty. Just because my hair is a different texture doesn't make it any better or worse than yours; its just different. The saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover" needs to be emphasized more among AfricanAmericans; especialy amongst ourselves.
