art

Noted historian Simon Schama has said of art :

(art helps us)"feel the rush of life...

art reclaims what had once been the role of religion...

consolation for our mortality through the relish of the gift of life"

What do you think?

  1. I agree with that statement because art reveals the beauty of life. We cherish it and it helps understand what is valuable and beautiful. Everyone has a different definition for art. Different people see different things. What one person thinks is art, another person might think it's just hideous. Art is somewhat like our perspective on things. Art is also based on someone's interests in hobbies. In example, a painter can find a piece of artwork absolutely stunning, while a fashion designer, finds clothing as a work of art.

  2. I'm not sure what the last line of the quote means. However, I do agree with the section that states "art reclaims what had once been the role of religion". The reason why I agree with this section is because more people are studying art rather than religion and religion becomes less noticalbe through out our sociaty. Therefore, people are remembered by art rather than religion or research about religion. People back in the day were a lot more religious than people from our generation, so they used that to define who they are as a person. I'm not saying they didn't have art, as a matter of fact, some of the best art peices were created in the past. Its just that they had some type of religious affiliation. Today, religion has no, or little to do with art.

  3. I think that the word art is more powerful than it is representing. Most people see the word art as a painted picture, a portrait, or etc. But art is the dream of our lives. Art is what people do that is something they love. For example if someone loves designing clothes and they become a fashion designer. Then their design is art to them because its there dream. And that is what makes the word art so powerful. So by saying this I agree with the historian Simon Schama because art helps us feel the rush of life that has been missing because dreams unfulfilled. However I do not agree with the whole quote but I believe parts of it is true.

  4. I am not really a big fan of artwork. I Whenever I look at that picture of Mona Lisa or a bowl of colorful fruit, I don't feel a big rush. However, when I look at a piece of artwork that is tragic, like a painting of cruelty on a slaveship, or a gas chamber in the Holocaust, I'll et a little emotional about that. I don't think it's the painting itself, I think it's the ideas and memories that the painting triggers. I'll start to think about the suffering that has been going on for hundreds of thousands of years in this world. Painting doesn't really affect me that much; but the ideas behind them really hit the heart hard.

  5. For me I really don't think much about art like the historian Simon Schama. He makes art seem like it is one of the reasons we live for. Art does tell you a lot about the past and cutrul things such as religion and life it self. Art also tells us stories about past events. But I dont think art is a big deal. Art to me is not a consolation for our mortality through the relish of the gift of life as the historian Simon Schama says.

  6. I think the art is that thing which encompasses a diverse range of human activities which may include, music, painting, flim, sculptures and so on. The qoute above which is "feel the rush of life... helps us to understand about how art helps to feel the rush of life. Actually art is also a part of history which can be documentary or flim. This part of history however in the real life helps people to feel the rush of their life. Art do helps the people to realize about their cultures, religions and other activities that belongs to their own cultures, which helps people to think about the rush of life.
